Background

Our client, a former Officer, entered an online discussion with a current Metropolitan Police Officer on the social media platform X. Following this, the Officer made an allegation against our client of harassing behaviour in September 2023. Our client was later arrested on February 2nd 2024, under suspicion of stalking and harassment, where she was held for 14 hours before she was finally released.

The Challenge

Following her unlawful arrest, our client suffered greatly with depression and generalised anxiety disorder. When challenged, Essex police denied any liability, forcing our client to issue proceedings against them.

The claims were settled out of court quickly and after a tough negotiation period between both parties our client received £8,000 in damages.
